How to back up your phone before a repair
Most repairs don't touch your data, but a backup protects you from any surprise. Make one before you hand your phone in, especially before a software repair or a fresh system install.
On iPhone
- Connect to Wi-Fi.
- Open Settings, tap your name at the top, then iCloud.
- Choose iCloud Backup and turn it on if it's off.
- Tap Back Up Now and wait until it finishes.
If your iCloud storage isn't enough, back up to a computer instead: with Finder on a Mac, or the Apple Devices app or iTunes on Windows.
On Android
- Open Settings and look for Backup (usually under Google, or Accounts and backup).
- Choose Google backup, then Back up now.
- Make sure your photos are saved in Google Photos.
On Samsung phones you can also use Samsung Cloud, or the Smart Switch app to save a copy on a computer.
WhatsApp chats
Open WhatsApp, go to Settings, then Chats, then Chat backup, and tap Back up.
Before handover
- Make sure you know your Apple ID or Google account password; you may need it after the repair.
- Take out your SIM card, memory card and case.
- Describe the fault clearly in the order notes.
